Established in 2018, the Department of Medical Laboratory Science is committed to academic excellence, research, and community healthcare. Under the leadership of Dr Rashmi Rekha Borah, Head of the Department (In-Charge), the department strives to develop competent and ethically responsible professionals in diagnostic laboratory services.

Initially offering the Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), the department transitioned to the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) programme in 2026, in alignment with the evolving regulatory framework under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) Act, 2021. The four-year undergraduate degree programme integrates theoretical learning, practical laboratory experience, research-oriented education, and a one-year hospital internship during the academic period.

The department encourages scientific inquiry, evidence-based learning, and ethical research practices. It also actively contributes to community welfare through health awareness programmes, health screening camps, and blood donation camps. Graduates have secured placements in several reputed government and private healthcare institutions, including hospitals and diagnostic laboratories.

Through quality education, clinical exposure, research, and community engagement, the department aims to prepare skilled medical laboratory professionals who contribute to reliable diagnostic services and improved healthcare outcomes.
