About the Department

It is one of the founding departments of the institute with a consistent result and academic progess that has helped the institute to the zenith of success.The Department of English was established in the year 1944 by founder Principal Jnaneswar Sarma, the 1st HOD of the department. The main motto of the department is to impart quality education among the upcoming generation of the society. Since its inception the department has been accommodating students of not only Nagaon district but also of the nearby districts. The department has been contributing in the best possible way in preparing students so that they are ready for employment in different sectors, mainly in the teaching profession. The department has been showing promising academic
performance since its establishment. The department has consistently been producing several 1 st classes in the B.A. final examination since its inception. The department was recognised as a post graduate department in 2015 and it has already produced 6 batches of postgraduate students by 2022. Ph. D programme was introduced in the department in 2022 with one research guide and two scholars. Currently the department has 8 Research Scholars. In the year 2025 the department has a record number of 14 NET achievers, the highest in Nagaon University. The department has also  a large number of alumni who have consistently cleared Civil Services and well posted in the academic field.
