    Course Description

    The Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) is a dual-major, four-year undergraduate programme designed to prepare teachers for different levels of school education, including the foundational, preparatory, middle, and secondary stages. The programme currently offers the B.A. B.Ed. degree, while B.Sc. B.Ed. and B.Com. B.Ed. are proposed as upcoming programmes. It provides expertise in both the chosen discipline and teacher education through academic coursework, pedagogy, classroom management, teaching methodologies, and extensive practical teaching experience, offering a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

    The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) introduced ITEP as a flagship initiative under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, integrating general education with professional teacher training to develop competent and skilled teachers.

    Nagaon University, a Government of Assam institution, functions in accordance with the guidelines of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Assam, and the University Grants Commission (UGC). To strengthen teacher education in the region, the University has applied to the Eastern Regional Committee (ERC) of NCTE for approval to introduce the four-year integrated B.A. B.Ed. programme under ITEP, with the objective of preparing professionally trained teachers for different stages of school education.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for admission to the Integrated BA-B.Ed program, candidates must meet the following criteria:

     

    • ***Educational Qualification: Successfully complete the 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board in India.
    • ***Minimum Marks: Achieve the required minimum percentage of marks as specified for your respective category.
    • ***Entrance Examination: Appear for the National Common Entrance Test (NCET), conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), and meet the necessary eligibility requirements.

    Procedure

    Admission to the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) at Nagaon University is conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). Candidates must appear for the National Common Entrance Test (NCET) conducted by the designated national testing agency. Based on the NCET merit and eligibility criteria prescribed by NCTE, eligible candidates are admitted through the Assam State Higher Education Common Admission Portal (SAMARTH), following the admission schedule and procedures notified by the Government of Assam and the University.

    • PO1: Professional Competence in Teaching: Demonstrate sound knowledge of educational principles, subject disciplines, and pedagogical practices to effectively plan, deliver, and assess learning across different stages of school education.
    • PO2: Critical Thinking and Ethical Practice: Apply critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and digital competencies while upholding ethical values, inclusivity, and professional responsibilities in diverse educational settings.
    • PO3: Lifelong Learning and Community Engagement: Exhibit a commitment to continuous professional development, educational research, innovation, and active engagement with schools and communities to promote holistic and sustainable development.

    As Nagaon University is a public institution, the admission fee for the Integrated B.A-B.Ed program is determined and periodically revised by the Government of Assam. The fee structure is set in accordance with the guidelines provided by the state government, ensuring that it remains affordable and accessible to all eligible students. The college adheres to these regulations and updates the fee details as per the official notifications issued by the government.

    The Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) is a four-year (eight-semester) dual-major undergraduate programme developed in accordance with the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The programme integrates disciplinary knowledge with professional teacher education, enabling students to acquire both subject expertise and pedagogical competencies within a single degree.
