The Department of Philosophy of Nowgong College (Autonomous) has a long and distinguished heritage, tracing its origins to the leadership of the founder Vice-Principal Mahesh Chandra Dev Goswami, a direct disciple of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, whose profound philosophical insights and dedication laid the foundation for its enduring scholarly tradition. Over the years the department has been served by the prominent faculty members including Prof. Basanta Kumar Bhuyan, Prof. S. Kakati, Prof. M. Nag and Prof. B. Goswami. Currently, the department is supported by a dedicated team of four permanent faculty members, each bringing expertise and passion to their teaching and research. Established with the vision of nurturing critical thinking, academic growth and ethical leaders it has introduced P.G. (in regular mode) in 2014 and Ph.D programme in 2022 affiliated to Gauhati University. In 2023 Nowgong College (Autonomous) has been upgraded to Nagaon University. Afterwards the P.G. and Ph.D programmes are administered by the University itself, marking a significant milestone in the department’s research pursuits. 

Mission and Vision of the Department:

The department aims to create a rich academic environment which embrace critical thinking, intellectual as well as ethical awareness among the students. Also, we envision to create a responsible community of thinkers who can participate in the upgradation of society by engaging in the pursuit of wisdom and truth.
